About us

Waste to Worth

Waste to Worth is a Dutch company based in Rotterdam. We set up plastic collection and recycling projects in places where plastic is piling up, and run them together with local communities. We believe plastic waste is not rubbish — it is material with real value, and collecting it can pay people a fair income.

Our mission

To clean streets, beaches and waterways by giving plastic waste a value — creating paid work and a lasting habit of separating waste, in every place we work.

Our vision

A world where plastic no longer blocks drains or pollutes coasts, because collecting and recycling it is simply worth it — for people, for cities and for the environment.

Why it matters

The problem we are solving

Our first project runs in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The figures below show why we started there — and why we want to bring the same model to more cities.

130,000 t

plastic waste generated in Sierra Leone every year

< 10%

of plastic is currently recycled nationally

40,600 t

plastic waste per year in Freetown alone

≈ 80%

of Freetown's plastic waste is dumped in streets and rivers.

It blocks drains, pollutes beaches and waterways — and throws away material that has real market value.

“We are not collecting waste. We are building value.”
